Tourist Attraction of Dharamshala

Mcleod Ganj :
Mcleod Ganj situated in the upper part of Dharamshala is the residence of His Holiness, the Dalai Lama. Serenity, mouth-dropping scenery, lovely monasteries and nunnery surrounding the place allow the tourists to get a lifetime experience.

 

War Memorial :
War Memorial is placed at the entry of the holy town. It was set up to honour the soldiers who fought to defend the pride of India. The place is truly picturesque where well-manicured gardens, dense pine trees provide peace and shelter to the brave sons of Mother India , who lost their lives in  Indo-Pak wars of 1947, 1965 and Indo China war of 1962. 

 

 

 

Lord Elgin :
Built in the memory of Lord Elgin the Scottish working peer and eighth Viceroy, Lord Eligin's Memorial Church is famous worldwide. The church has the monument of the Viceroy who had died in Dharamshala. It was his wish to be buried in the Church of St. John.

 

 

 

 

Dal Lake :
Dal Lake is simply stunning . Surrounded by tall, elegant deodar forests, it is truly the abode of the creator. It is undoubtedly a very beautiful picnic spot. It is believed that by taking a dip in the lake, one gets rid of all the miseries

Chamunda Devi is set against a breathtaking backdrop of Dhauladhar waterfalls. The religious element of the place is augmented by the stunning views of the sensuous forests of Lahala, Pathiar, Khud  and the lofty mountains.

Library of Tibetani :

Library of Tibetan Works and Archives was set up by the 14th Dalai Lama. It is located at McLeodganj town of Dharamshala. The prime objective of the library is to preserve and promote the culture of Tibet. It provides adequate opportunity to any maiden traveler to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of Buddhist community. The library consists of 80,000 religious texts, journal, books and lovely statues.  

 

Namgyal Monastery :

Namgyal Monastery was founded in 1575 by the third Dalai Lama, Sonam Gyatso. The monastery is the center of learning, contemplation and meditation. Its prime objective was to help the Dalai Lama to perform various spiritual duties and several religious activities to be performed in public places. 

 

Norbulingka Institute :

Norbulingka Institute of Tibetan Culture is located at a distance of 4km from Dharamshala, in the picturesque Kangra Valley. The institute was set up to preserve, promote and to make people acquainted with the richness of traditional Tibetan arts, literature and culture. The Institute is set amidst lush green surrounding where tiny streams, gurgling waterfalls, koi ponds amidst the mesmerizing beauty of Dhualadhar mountains create breathtaking background.     

 

Kangra Fort :

Kangra Fort dates back to 1009 AD. It was built by the royal family of Kangra. The fort constructed at the confluence of Banganga and Manjhi streams is a wonderful fusion of ancient and medieval form of architecture. Today the Kangra Fort is in a dilapidated condition, result of massive earthquake that hit in 1905.

 

Nurpur Fort :

Nurpur Fort, earlier known as Dhameri was built by Raja Basu about 1000 years ago. The fort is situated at a distance of 24 kms from Pathankot and 66 kms from Dharamshala.
